I was homeless and had no job...

I come to you on behalf of one of our incredible women who wished to remain nameless. I have a special affinity with this beautiful soul because her motivational song, was my war cry when I personally escaped.

"I remember waking up the first day out in the big world, I was homeless and had no job but there was no feeling of despair the thing I felt the most and I’ll never forget it, I felt free! Free of guilt. Free of oppression. Free of sin."

How many years have you been free?

I have been free for 5 and a half years now, and yes free is the right word to describe it.

What would you tell your younger self?

Do what makes you happy, don’t be afraid.

Who is the one person who changed your life the most?

My fiancé. He has taught me what real love is and how to appreciate myself, celebrate my strengths and believe in myself.

What are you most grateful about being able to do now as a woman that you couldn’t do before?

Equality! I don’t have to be a housewife if I don’t want to. I can be silly and not ladylike if I’m not feeling it. I don’t have to plaster a smile on my face 24/7 and make out everything is peachy if it isn’t.

If you have a motivational song what is it?

The song that actually was the turning point and made me decide to leave was Let It Go from the movie Frozen.

What’s the greatest gift we can give ourselves?

Love and respect yourself

What’s the greatest gift we can give each other?

Be kind, you gave no idea what inner turmoil someone might be going through.

Thank you for your brave and courageous sharing - you are quite right, we never know what's going on in other peoples lives.
